Symptoms such as hives, swelling, digestive upset, or breathing difficulties after eating eggs may indicate an egg allergy. The Egg Allergy Panel (IgE) helps identify allergic reactions to different components of eggs, distinguishing between sensitivities to egg white, yolk, or specific proteins, enabling more accurate management of dietary restrictions.

Why is an Egg Allergy Test (IgE) needed?

Egg allergy is one of the most common food allergies in children, though it can also affect adults. Since egg proteins are widely used in foods and even vaccines, identifying the specific protein triggering the allergy is essential for avoiding accidental exposure and preventing mild to severe allergic reactions.

What Gets Assessed?

Mild to Severe Egg allergies and sensitivities for:

  • Egg’s white
  • Egg’s yolk
  • Ovomucoid
  • Ovalbumin
  • Conalbumin
  • Lysozyme

FAQs

Who should consider this test?

This test is suitable for individuals who experience symptoms such as hives, eczema, digestive issues, swelling, or respiratory problems after consuming eggs or foods containing eggs.

How is the test performed?

A small blood sample is collected to measure IgE antibody levels against egg proteins.

Which allergens are included in this panel?

The panel covers egg white, egg yolk, ovomucoid, ovalbumin, conalbumin, and lysozyme, which are common proteins responsible for egg allergies.

What do the results show?

The test results indicate the presence and severity of IgE antibodies specific to egg proteins, helping to identify if egg allergy is causing the symptoms.

How can this test support allergy management?

The test helps individuals and healthcare providers create a tailored diet plan, avoid allergen triggers, and find safe alternatives for better symptom control.
